Sources come first

Every spec, formula and safety rule on TankAndFin comes from a published source: manufacturers' spec pages, university extension services, federal agencies such as the CDC, EPA and USGS, and other official or educational pages. Each page lists its sources, and where we add our own arithmetic or suggestion, we label it.

Product information

Product specs come from the maker or the retail listing and are attributed (“per the listing”). We don't test products, and we don't publish invented scores, star ratings or prices.

Animal welfare and the environment

We follow extension and federal guidance: cycle tanks before adding fish, don't overstock, and never release aquarium animals or plants into the wild.

When sources disagree

Makers sometimes list different numbers in different places. We say so and use the official spec page where we can.
